About This Quote

What is it about writing? Once you start writing, you can’t stop. It’s like riding a bicycle for the first time. There is no give in the action of printing your words, just as there was no give in riding that bike. Writing can be compared to pulling teeth.

You have to pull the words out of the page by sheer force of will, and they don’t come out willingly at all. The only reward you get after pushing on through the pain is pride in what you’ve done and pleasure in knowing that what you’ve written lives on long after your voice has faded. A lot of writers say they put pen to paper without thinking too much about what they are writing, but I know that it takes great concentration to keep writing even after you’ve finished the first draft.
